I haven’t discovered my truth of happiness throughout this project as I believe no one else could have either. As we discovered through this project, happiness can not be a consolation prize, but an ongoing practice that must be constantly refined. This ongoing practice includes doing the things you enjoy, and for me that includes drawing and reading. The practice also includes distancing yourself from things that no longer bring you joy. Happiness takes constant upgrades and assessment, you must ask yourself, does this actually bring me joy? That is my truth of happiness; understanding the difference between what brings me true happiness and what brings superficial joys.
The greatest challenge I faced in this project was including and incorporating my groupmate through the process. During the project, specifically with creating the actual video, I took most of the work burden. I found it hard to divide up the work evenly and instead of communicating my worries, I delegated small tasks to my partner. I feel that our project could have gone a lot further conceptually if we found a way to evenly distribute the work effort.
Choosing to work in a group for this project has helped me learn the give and take it requires to only work with one other person. As for this project, I took initiative as the leader of the group immediately and became responsible for delegating tasks. That becomes difficult when working with a partner because the teammate that is not the leader turns into the assistant. In being the assistant, I feel that my partner missed a lot of opportunities to contribute to the project in positive ways. An equal power balance in our partnership could have allowed our video to be better.
If I could refine something about this project, I would want to change the happiness experiment portion. The happiness experiment allowed us to understand what routine and activity can do to our happiness. I would have liked to explore that deeper in the classroom by doing activities together or in groups to see the difference in happiness for different people participating in different activities. I think it would be interesting to set up a data table and look at all the different people in our class and what brings them joy.
